Detectives Seek Info in Homicide Case

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are looking for information to assist them in the investigation into the death of 62 year-old Manuel Reyes. On May 27, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Reyes was walking near his home on Myrtle Avenue near Polk Street in North Highlands. Reyes was assaulted by unknown suspects, and knocked to the ground. He sustained head trauma from the assault and was hospitalized that evening. Several days later, Reyes died as a result of his injuries.

Witnesses observed a dark-colored sedan with two black males outside the car and a female driver. The vehicle was seen fleeing the area where the victim was found, heading westbound on Myrtle Avenue towards Watt Avenue.

On the night Reyes was assaulted, he was wearing a burgundy, long-sleeved flannel shirt, pants, and a white cowboy hat similar to the one in the attached photo. Anyone who may have seen the victim in the area where this assault took place, or having any information about the circumstances surrounding this incident, is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115, Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP, or send a text message tip to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
