Please note, the following list of cases only represent a small portion of those solved by the Cold Case Investigations Unit since its establishment in 2004.

Case#: 72-29442
Defendant: Arrest made in 2006
Prison Sentence: Life in prison

Synopsis:
In 1972 a 12-year-old girl was murdered at the Rancho Cordova apartment where she was babysitting four young children. A suspect was identified but there was insufficient evidence to take the case to trial. In 2006, this cold case was re-opened by detectives and all physical evidence was re-examined with the latest technology. Based upon these new findings, a suspect was identified and arrested at his residence in Florida and returned to California to face trial. A jury convicted him of first degree murder in June 2007 and he was sentenced to life in prison. This is the oldest cold case prosecuted in Sacramento County to date.

Prison Sentence: 88 years to life

Synopsis:
In October 1995 and March 1996 two women were sexually assaulted at their residences by an unknown male with a similar physical description. The cases remain unsolved until new information surfaced in 2004. Detectives identified the suspect and in 2006 a jury convicted him of both sexual assaults. He was sentenced to 88 years to life in prison.

Synopsis:
In 1996 a female was carjacked at gunpoint when she stopped to use a payphone. The suspect forced her to orally copulate him and dumped her in another part of town and drove away in her vehicle. She ran to a local office building which had on-site security and sought help. The case remained unsolved until new information surfaced in 2004 which identified the suspect. In 2006 a jury convicted him of sexual assault and he was sentenced to 11 years in state prison.

Prison Sentence: 55 years to life

Synopsis:
In March 1997 a female juvenile accepted a ride from a casual acquaintance. Rather than taking her to her friend's house, he took her to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her in his van. He pushed her out of the vehicle and threw her clothes out of the window. She waved down a Sheriff Deputy for help. The case remained unsolved until 2002 when new evidence identified the suspect. In February 2005 a jury convicted the defendant of sexually assaulting the juvenile and he was sentenced to 55 years to life. The suspect was already serving 25 to life for a previous sexual assault conviction.

Synopsis:
In April 1997 a female was kidnapped and forced into a vehicle. The suspect drove her to a secluded area where he raped her and fled. The victim waved down a passerby who stopped to assist her. The case remained unsolved until new information surfaced in 2002. Detectives identified the suspect and in 2003 he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 155 years to life.

Synopsis:
In August 2003 a female accepted a ride from two unknown men. When the vehicle made a stop in a residential neighborhood, she got out and began to walk away. The passenger grabbed her and pulled her into a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her. She hid in the bushes until daylight and sought help when a resident opened their garage to go to work. The case remained unsolved until new information surfaced in 2004. Detectives identified the suspect and in 2005 he was convicted by a jury and sentenced to 32 years in state prison.
